The beauty of numbers

     Today I want to talk about the beauty of the numbers 
   We live in a world where basic math and numbers are always an important part of daily life one with proper budget planning is capable of managing income and expenditures without any fear of bankruptcy or shortage of money this shows a smart side using numbers effectively. 
There are many departments in which calculations are inevitable without them nothing is possible I will share some interesting numerical applications 


1. The golden ratio (1.6180)
   
 φ:- The golden ratio (the symbol is the Greek letter "phi" shown at left)is a special number approximately equal to 1.618

The golden ratio, also known as the divine proportion, golden mean, or golden section, is a number often encountered when taking the ratios of distances in simple geometric figures such as the pentagonpentagramdecagon and dodecahedron.

The term "golden section"(In GermanGoldener Schnitt or der Goldene Schnitt) seems to first have been used by Martin Ohm in the 1835 2nd edition of his textbook Die Reine Elementar-Mathematik (Livio 2002, p. 6). The first known use of this term in English is in James Sulley's 1875 article on aesthetics in the 9th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica. The symbol 

phi ("phi") was apparently first used by Mark Barr at the beginning of the 20th century in commemoration of the Greek sculptor Phidias (ca. 490-430 BC), who a number of art historians claim made extensive use of the golden ratio in his works (Livio 2002, pp. 5-6). Similarly, the alternate notation tau is an abbreviation of the Greek tome, meaning "to cut"

Now, this was all basic information it is interesting to note that we associate this number with the facial beauty as well there are many doctors in plastic surgeons who have agreed with the fact that they use this ratio while doing their surgeries. Dr Juian Desilva has confirmed that she used this ratio for plastic surgeries done by her

A simple and clear explanation of this ratio in terms of facial beauty is that it is a definite ratio in which a person's face is 1.5 times longer than it is wide  

    On the other side, there are many articles which say this ratio doesn't matter when it comes to beauty well that may be true as our motif of discussing this here was only about the beauty of numbers and how they relate with things.

2. Fibonacci sequence

The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is the addition of the last two numbers, starting with 0, and 1.

The Fibonacci Sequence: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55…

Written as a rule, the expression is:        Xn = Xn-1 + Xn-2

Fibonacci is remembered for two important contributions to Western mathematics:

  1. He helped spread the use of Hindu systems of writing numbers in Europe (0,1,2,3,4,5 in place of Roman numerals).
  2. The seemingly insignificant series of numbers later named the Fibonacci Sequence after him.
And many more examples of symmetrical numbers and ratios are there. Here we saw two of them just to recognise that how they become beautiful when they are in a perfect order 


Now, we already know that nature at some point follows this sequence which sometimes adds up to its beauty some plants which use this progression are 
lilies, which have three petals and buttercups with their five petals, in Gujrat we know saptapadi uses this sequence the seeds of sunflower are also in this sequence and there are many more other examples of this sequence 

The point I want to discuss here is that the numbers are always beautiful and when they are symmetrical they become very elegant we love to see symmetric flowers roads, in fact, we know that Gandhinagar is a designed city which has perfect crossovers of roads and circles this all adds up to the beauty of the city we also like to have things in proper order some person practice this perfection in daily life the perfection of numbers is the ultimate perfection.
The perfect geometrical shapes always amuse us such as making rangoli with help of rounder at the last page of book etc.
The study shows that geometrical tattoos are more attractive to humans than regular ones i.e the ones with some symmetry in them in many such ways numbers keep enticing us  

CLOSURE
 We are always amazed by numbers knowingly or unknowingly next time we see such symmetry around us let us stop and think for a while how the simple beauty of numbers attracts us, how we appreciate the pattern in flowers and plants. Really the beauty lies in simplicity
